I believe that complete acceptance of the client with an absence of judgment are essential elements of counselling. To be able to work through overwhelming feelings such as: grief; shame; embarrassment; guilt; fear; it is vital to feel safe.
I offer my clients opportunity to explore and experiment, encouraging them to take steps as wide or as small as they feel comfortable to take. My role is to guide, facilitate and support, as well as to look at the meaning behind the words, and to challenge old beliefs and judgments that are having a negative effect in person’s life.
The aim of therapy is to increase understanding and awareness, and to integrate it into everyday life. Whatever problem we experience we feel fragmented, disconnected and often hopeless and isolated.
Some people may feel empty, tired, lost or unlovable. Feelings of despair, loneliness, shame or grief can be overwhelming and powerful. Others have to wear a mask to hide their shame, and have a constant feeling of being inadequate and “different” from others, despite successful careers and achievements.
As individuals, we use different ways to cover our pain: food; alcohol; sex; work; computer games; Internet; but despite a short feeling of relief, that pain always comes back.
I combine different approaches and techniques to help my clients to gain insight about what is happening to them, and why. Reaching back to find sources of the problems creates opportunities for clients to change, transform weakness to strength and live their lives more fully and authentically.
Therapy is a process of learning to restore and appreciate ourselves in our entire holistic state. At Space For Self you will find a safe place to explore in a gentle, yet committed, intentional way.
